  • • An average month is 365 ÷ 12 days; calculations use precise values before displaying rounded currency.
  • • Purchase price, taxes, standby power, rate changes, and varying fan speeds are not included.

How the air purifier cost calculation works

  • Daily energy = (watts ÷ 1,000) × hours per day × purifier count. Annual energy uses 365 days; the monthly figure is the annual result divided by 12.
  • Electricity cost = energy in kWh × your electricity rate. The calculator keeps full-precision intermediate values and rounds only the displayed result.
  • Annual filter cost = filter price per purifier × purifier count × (12 ÷ replacement interval in months). This annualizes partial replacement cycles for comparison.
  • Annual operating total = annual electricity + annualized filters. The three-year estimate multiplies that exact annual total by three and assumes prices and usage stay constant.

Air purifier electricity cost questions

How much electricity does an air purifier use per day?

Daily use depends on wattage, runtime, and purifier count. A 55-watt purifier running 12 hours uses 0.66 kWh per day; two identical units use 1.32 kWh before multiplying by your local electricity price.

Should I use the maximum wattage on the product label?

Use the measured or rated wattage for the fan speed you normally run. Maximum nameplate wattage gives a conservative estimate if your purifier usually operates at a lower or variable speed.

How are filter replacements included?

The filter price is multiplied by the purifier count and by 12 divided by your replacement interval in months. This produces a comparable annualized filter expense, even when the interval does not divide evenly into one year.

Does the three-year total include the purifier purchase price?

No. It includes estimated electricity and replacement filters only. Purchase price, taxes, shipping, maintenance, rate changes, and changing fan speeds are outside the calculation.
