Metodología, fuentes de datos y política de revisión
Este sitio está diseñado para ayudar a interpretar AQI y tomar decisiones sobre calidad del aire. La estimación es deliberadamente simple para que sea comprensible, pero sigue una metodología pública reconocible.
AQI to PM2.5
The calculator converts AQI into an estimated PM2.5 concentration using EPA-style AQI breakpoint logic.
AQI is easier to look up, while PM2.5 is the dose unit needed for the cigarette-equivalent framing.
PM2.5 to cigarette-equivalent exposure
After estimating PM2.5, the site applies Berkeley Earth’s cigarette-equivalence framing to make the exposure easier to compare.
The result is meant to communicate dose, not to claim that air pollution and smoking are medically identical.
Direct PM2.5 mode and live data
- The calculator also accepts PM2.5 directly and only derives AQI for category and scenario guidance.
- City pages use EPA AirNow as a live enhancement layer when coverage and API responses are available.
- If live data fails or is unavailable, the site falls back to structured planning baselines instead of breaking.
Important limitations
- The estimate is not medical advice and does not predict individual outcomes.
- Real-world exposure changes with exertion, indoor leakage, masks, ventilation, and time spent in cleaner or dirtier microenvironments.
- Fast-moving smoke events should still be checked against local official guidance.
Usa el método donde mejor funciona
El modelo es más útil cuando comparas una lectura, una duración o un escenario con otro y usas eso para cambiar una decisión práctica.
